Ice Box Rolls

Today we might call these refrigerator rolls. But how fun is it reach back into history for a delicious roll you can enjoy now?

Ingredients

1 c. hot milk
1/2 c. shortening
2 cakes yeast
2 eggs beaten
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour

Add shortening to the hot milk. Allow to cool until lukewarm. Crumble in yeast and stir until dissolved. Ad beaten eggs, sugar and salt. Beat thoroughly. Add flour and beat it all together. Let stand in warm place until it doubles in bulk. Punch it down. Put in a greased bowl, cover and place in refrigerator.

Remove from refrigerator three (3) hours before using. Let dough raise until double in bulk. Form into rolls and bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.
